authentic check

Met a Dr Alan Levin who was wearing a silver star lapel pin and indicated that he had served in Marine special ops during early Vietnam(60's). Indicated that he was an operator as a doctor which sounds pretty strange to me, as I know we would not allow Dr.'s to do anything but medical work.
Not sure of the unit as he said he was spec ops as volunteer, but he had to be attached to a unit to get a silver star. Any way to check this, as I tried before but did not have enough info or access to track it down?
It may be genuine but sure smells bad and he is a Dr. practicing in SF telling of his exploits. Thanks

DR LEVIN

1967,Marines were pinned down,DR.Levin's helicopter was turned away 2 times and finally landed.Dr.Levin,disregarding his own safety left the helicopter and gave much needed medical supplies to the Marines.S/F GUY
this is just a short story of his heroism.
