Master Sgt. Matthew O. Williams
MSG Williams' Silver Star from an April 2008 battle has been upgraded to the Medal of Honor. MSG Williams is the second soldier to receive the Medal from that battle.
The battle took place April 6, 2008 in Shok Valley, Afghanistan, during a joint U.S.-Afghan raid to kill or capture Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the leader of the former Hezebela Islami Gulbadin militia that is now an Afghan political party following a peace agreement. MSG Williams will receive the medal in a 30 October ceremony. Stars and Stripes Well done, all.
