Are any of you living in the Slidell area? Do any of you know where Rob Rehume (sp)
and Jose Torres ended up?

Is Slidel a good and safe area for someone to have a home in if they are PCSing down there?

Slidell is ok. Wouldn’t be my first choice of places to raise a family, but it’s not an unsafe area, or at least it didn’t used to be. A little further to the west, mandeville and Covington are pretty good areas but will add a bit to your drive, assuming you will be at Stennis.

I agree. Mandeville is thriving and growing by leaps and bounds. It is a very nice, clean, city. I would move there in a heartbeat. Covington is a good second choice as well.

North of the Lake in general is growing and are good places to live. Mandeville and Covington are getting overgrown, so the population is growing to the West into Madisonville and most recently Ponchatoula.

I understand, but kind of set on being by some water, even though it is a brackish lake, it is something.

I worked at Stennis and most of the folks in my division lived in Waveland or Picayune.

You're never far from water in that part of the world whether it's salt, fresh, or brackish water.

I live in Mandeville and have 40 acres in north Pass Christian. I-10/I-12 commute is the biggest issue after schools/safety. I live about 2 blocks from Lake Pontchartrain and the Causeway Bridge. I love my neighborhood. It is very safe and good for my commute to New Orleans daily. Working in Stennis and living here is not what I would choose. I would definitely look at going to Mississippi with the understanding that a good school district may be hard to find.

Our "farm" in Harrison County is about as far from a daily commute to Stennis that I'd be willing to make. I would look seriously at Bay St. Louis.
