Medal of Honor Oak Tree

Today I had the distinct honor and privilege of participating in the dedication of the Medal of Honor Oak Tree. This Red Oak, planted in the NE corner of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History by Medal of Honor recipient and past President of the Medal of Honor Society Brian Thacker symbolizes all recipients of the Medal, past and present. Mr. Thacker, assisted by 16 veterans, planted the tree using soil taken from 16 different battlefields representing 11 of the wars in which Americans fought; the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Cuba, The Boxer Rebellion, WWI and II, Korea, Vietnam, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
