I've been using either a Bersa .380 or a Makarov as my EDC, with the choice depending on clothing. I like their physical size as well as their accuracy and low recoil. However, I've been looking at picking up something of similar dimensions but with a more powerful cartridge, so I'm considering the S&W M&P Shield in .40 caliber. The reason for that caliber is that I already have a mountain of that ammo for a Kel-Tec carbine. Most of the comments in this thread have involved the .45 caliber version of the same weapon. Does anyone have experience with a .40 Shield that produced different characteristics than previously described? The most commonly mentioned annoyance with the .45 was the magazine release, so I'm particularly interested in that.
