I hesitate to recommend "Platoon", Oliver Stone production, because it mostly features uncommon actions of the war. When I first saw this movie, I felt that it was disrespectfull of the honorable service of many Americans. I still believe it gives a false impression of Vietnam Veterans. I served two tours in III Corps as an VN Advisor and participated in several combined operations with elements of the 1st Div., 11th Arcav, 1st Cav., and 25th Div. The tuff combat conditions were accurate, but the drugs, rape, and murder certainly was just movie crap. Just keep that in mind!

Tracy,
Just rented "Siege of Firebase Gloria" a couple of nights ago. It gets my nomination for best 'Nam movie. R. Lee Ermey is a freakin genius, and a VietVet to boot! The one-liners in that movie are incredible.

One of the more obscure Vietnam movies out there is "The Boys in Company C", which could be called "Full Metal Jacket Light."

It follows agroup of Marines from basic to Vietnam, narrated by the guy who wants to be a writer AND it features R. Lee Ermey as their DI, but it was made almost 10 years before FMJ. I think it was a joint venture between Canon, who did the Delta Force movies, and Golden Harvest, an HK chop-socky studio.

I wouldn't recommend buying it (probably out of print) but it's got its moments. Might be worth renting.

Anybody ever see the Eye of the Eagle series? I almost rented em, but decided to get Chopper Chicks in Zombietown instead. ;-)

My vote goes to Odd Angry Shot. Aussie SAS in Vietnam. That "wanking machine" kills me.

I've got to add some thumbs up for "The Odd Angry Shot", and recommend "The Final Option" (about the Brit. SAS).

I know we're looking for Vietnam and later, but I have to take a step back and add "Cross of Iron", "Saving Private Ryan", and "Submarine X-1".
