Sig MG .338

I couldn't find this posted for some reason, but this thing looks pretty awesome. .338 Norma Mag? Do we as a nation have enough money to feed these things?

Because loud sucks. .338 Norma seems to be the new hotness in the .mil - there's a retired SF SGM named Karl Erickson that raves about that cartridge, compared to Lapua. Mk 21 Advanced Sniper Rifle.

Edit: Per Wiki - .Mil wants this:

Quote:
In May 2017 the United States Special Operations Command, in conjunction with the United States Marine Corps issued a sources sought notice for 5,000 Lightweight Medium Machine Guns (LWMMG) chambered for .338 Norma Magnum polymer-cased ammunition."The aim is to identify a machine gun with a 24 inches (610 mm) long barrel weighing 24 pounds (10.9 kg) or less, which offers sufficient accuracy out to 2,000 metres (2,187 yd) to engage area targets and vehicles"

Reducing signature at night immediately comes to mine. “Fire draws fire,” but a 2ft flame coming from the front of the muzzle and being the only unsuppressed weapon (and the one putting the most lead downrange) in the element makes you a huge (frequently static) target at night. Glad I’m not the one paying for them though.

I'm all for it, we should have enough machine guns for every tactical vehicle in the inventory and the 50cal is really neither fish nor fowl today. I suspect there's going to be demand for something like the SAW back/ in greater issue, at least in the USMC. Which is cool. S/F....Ken M
