VA Clinic Virus Screening

I just got an email from the VA today which says that effectively immediately, the Durham VA Health Care System will be screening all people who enter the facility for the Coronavirus. The email goes on to warn you that it will take longer to get in to your appointments and advises you to call your clinic if you get there and see you might be late making your appointment because of the screening.

I've got an appointment in Durham Friday and already looking at a 3 hour drive to get there. Wondering now, how much time I need to allow on top of driving time to get to my appointment.

Thinking seriously about just cancelling this appointment and staying home until this fiasco subsides.

My small clinic stopped you just inside and asked if you’ve travelled or have flu like symptoms. If no, I just checked in at the automated station. Cost me 30 seconds because the guy in front of me started small talk with the screener.

Not enough screeners and too much small talk could add a delay waiting in line.

Went to my VA yesterday for a URI. The entry screener began asking me questions, then another guy walked up beside me and the screener continued down the list of questions but addressed them to him, so I walked on by.

Got to the sick call area and was handed a mask. An hour later, when the PA showed up, I was told to remove the mask and pitch it despite cough and low grade fever.

Labs negative for flu and strep, but. We dont screen for the coronavirus. Walked out with a sack of meds.

Local Doc-in-a-Box and ERs are full. Times like this remind me of how fortunate I am to have this VAMC for my primary care.

I went today for my yearly and the notice was gone. They had a new set of questions they are asking people about your exposure in the last 21 days.
Had a good vibe today

Was at my VA clinic this morning and the "greeter" took all of maybe 30 seconds to ask me her questions.

VA in Fayetteville is screening people as they drive in, causing traffic backups...I figure that will change as they develop a better system

I received an email from South Georgie/North Florida VA Region saying all VA facilities in the region will be screening for the virus until further notice. No details on how; so we will see (judging on all the above).

I got discharged today after spending a couple of days at the local hospital - simple screening about travel outside the country and only a few folks wearing masks.

I'm keeping my appointment Friday in Durham. Gonna leave about an hour early and hope they have it in somewhat working order.

The other half works at the Durham VA.
Tomorrow morning I will call/email her to see what she has to say.

My dad went to the VA Clinic here in Leesburg, FL this afternoon and was in and out. He told me they asked a few questions and that was it.

Just got back from the VA in Ann Arbor. Screening everyone as they enter, with VA Police on the scene to ensure compliance. Providers have been directed to limit FTF meetings with patients to those that are not high risk for the virus (that means people over 60, heart conditions, diabetes and so on). Since the heart attack last month I'm in that category. For well over a month the VA staff has been asked to volunteer to work at 'other sites around the country to help with screening for COVID19.'

One of the questions they asked me was had I been around anyone bleeding from the eyes. I told them that is some voodoo crap right there, if I saw that you think I would hang around?

I called the VA a week ago to reschedule an appointment, and they asked me screening questions over the phone.

I made my appointment in Durham Friday. Met the screeners at the front door.

"Do you have flu symptoms?"
"Have you traveled out of the country in the last 30 days?"
"Have you been exposed to someone who has tested positive to the virus?"
"Do you have an appointment today?"

"Have a nice day and thank you for your service".

Had an appointment at the Montgomery VAMC today and they called at 10:00 and ask me if it was urgent or could I possibly put it off. I told her I guess I could put it off since I had an abscess tooth and the dentist had me on a antibiotic. She said that it would be better if I was off the antibiotic so we decided to put it off. she said if it happened again to go to a family PA or the VA emergency room.

Nashville VA hospital (located adjacent to Vanderbilt University Medical Center) has COVID-19 screenings for those presenting symptoms. It's a mix of through the ED, and a testing site they set up in the lowest level in one of the parking garages.
