"acoustic attack" using sonic devices ?

Not at all surprising to me. And not some new whizbang technology either.
Excuse my choice of source. It is being reported from many angles.

I saw this also and wondered if it was a:
--technical attempt to eavesdrop
--straight up assault/harassment
--little bit a both

Would be interesting to know what office(s) these folks worked in.

Nope, this is straight Maxwell Smart level spycraft: High frequency sound causes hearing loss, so the embassy staff has to speak louder to hear each other. Now the bad guys don't have to work so hard to collect intel.

Not meant as a critique, as obviously one cannot look for everything at all times. But it should be rather simple to check for what seems to basically be a some kind of high frequency sound emitting device?

We and others have been using different frequency sound for crowd control for some time. Sounds like someone done this for shits & giggles.

That and terminal guidance to the POO of the emitter are trivial. Having some jackass with an ultrasonic boombox in your threat model (and therefore be baselining those frequencies in the first place) is not.

Although it doesn't shed any light on the current situation this is an interesting article. Perhaps the motive was simply to modify brain waves and alter the normal thought process ? Regardless, done covertly and with specific targets (subjects), I find this very disturbing. I For one am more concerned with threats I can't see .

The State Department ordered the withdrawal of all non-emergency embassy personnel from Cuba Friday, following reports of hearing loss and cognitive issues from at least 21 American diplomats.

Huh.

The East German Stasi used to break resistance cells with invisible weapons. They would arrest a suspect with every intention of releasing him in a day or two. They would bring him in and then not beat or torture or question him, all of which would have been normal procedure. After all day in the cell without any liquids they would give him something to drink that was drugged. When he fell asleep in his cell, they would roll an industrial x-ray machine used for weld radiography in front of his cell and irradiate him through the bars for a very long time. His shoes would then be saturated in radioactive substances. In the morning he would be released. He would get sick in a few days and die in a few weeks of something nobody could identify, but in the meantime every step he had taken would be traceable with radiation detectors and an entire resistance network could be raided without them ever suspecting that the Stasi knew where their hiding places were.

Why are we even still in Cuba? The entire thing was a bullshit Obama shit decision. Close up shop and resume our original stance regarding them.

This is why 'they' always win. "We" never freaking reverse decisions by the shitbags in office when we replace them. Even the easy ones that require no Congressional action. Jesus.....
