I had the chance and the pleasure to meet Andy 2 years ago down here on a detail. Learned a whole lot in those 2 weeks.
RIP Andy.

To those of you who knew him personally, thank you for sharing your stories (I would love to read more stories from more of you when you feel to do so).

I think those stories do well to keep the spirit of this thread as well as what Andy would have wanted.

Rest In Peace. Your voice will be missed- you had the rare gift of forcing others to think and confront their own position.

Rest in Peace SOTB.

Can't believe I just typed that; he was definitely a huge part of what makes this place what it is.

In the last few years of lurking and posting here, I've enjoyed reading his posts and respected his straightforward responses. Critical or not, there was always something to learn from. After reading some of the posts here from those who knew him personally, I wish I would've had the opportunity to meet him.

RIP SOTB,
Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Damn.
Rest in Peace SOTB.

Very eloquent post, KidA.

I only met Andy once, at that small SoCal linkup in Redondo Beach along with you, Forestboy, Hot Mess and WGN175.

He ate a steak as big as a catcher's mitt, and I'm pretty sure he ordered dessert.

Good times...

RIP, SOTB.

To family, comrades, and friends of Mr. Andy Potts - so sorry for your loss. His articulate thoughts have educated me about many things and for that I am thankful as a guest. SOTB's posts never left a doubt where he stood - devotion to family, his military brothers, and this country with an original independent perspective.

SOTB's public posts were always of sharp wit and often of deep insight when he was in the mood, but his PM exchanges with me were uniformly kind and generous. He was a man of well-chosen words and a deeply devoted father, two things this world could use a lot more of.

Damn dust in here right now.
Shocked and saddened.
Just read all the previous posts celebrating his life and am now sitting in my office with tears streaming down my face. Some may find that strange to shed tears for a man I have never met in person, and simply knew on an internet site. But, I always felt he was a good man. Sometimes we agreed sometimes we disagreed, but through it all, he was professional and a class act. The world and this site are a bleaker place today.

RIP Warrior

I was headed home Sunday morning at 11:00 am when I read SB's post, and I can admit I cried. For his daughter as well as the thought that he was gone. Never PM'd him, never had one bit of contact with SOTB. I guess that is the effect SOTB had on many people here. 13 years of reading this guy had a lasting effect on me.

I am in shock reading this...SOTB was a pillar on here, he was very eloquent with his wording and always added value to the site, never knew him personally, but got to enjoy a couple of laughs with him on here from time to time. Thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends - I will miss seeing him post, always enjoyed his take on things.

Although I didn't always agree with him, his arguments were always so well thought out and well spoken that it was hard to argue with them........and he changed my opinions on a few things too. RIP Sir. You'll be missed around here. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
