Swim caps in the PAST

I was wondering it says the only equipment allowed for the PAST is swim goggles and swim trunks. Am i wrong in assuming that means swim caps are not allowed? I only ask because i grew my hair shoulder length as a tribute to a very dear friend of mine that passed away in a car accident, i planned on shaving prior to BMT anyway but just wanted to make sure that i was right in assuming so.

Swim Caps? WTF???

In many cases it is much better to stay quiet and give people the option of thinking you might be a nutjob rather than by opening your mouth and removing all doubt.

I don't get it o-o swim caps get all of my hair into a bundle so i don't drown in it when i go to breath. My hair is quite long almost impossible to swim other wise.

xD I think an explanation of why i use a swim cap is needed, my hair reaches my shoulders and there's a lot of it, when i swim free style the side to side motion causes my hair to shift with my bodies motion, so when i turn my head to breathe instead of clear air there's a ton of wet hair blocking me so i can't grab a breath before continuing my stroke. Breathing in wet hair is no fun.

It's not. You will be getting a military hair cut on reporting to basic military training and you will be keeping hair cut to such short and lack of bulk standards a swim cap will not be needed for this control of hair purpose.

As far as swim cap I've seen them allowed in past (before I retired in 1996) as to my knowledge swim caps are not considered equipment for lap swims. However they do have ear injury potential when doing underwater activities and lack of time between transition between water training activities has in my experience made swim cap impractical.

You can do all the girly look alike swimming you want for PAST training before you report to BMT to include wearing a two piece female swim suit. Nobody cares.

Why does it matter? Cut your hair, and you won't need a swim cap. I understand the concept of a tribute to a friend, but do you really think your friend would want you wandering around looking like a douchebag? Do you also pour the first sip of your malt liquor on the ground "for your homies?"

I apologize if that comes off insulting, but you need to realize that honoring a friend doesn't have to include changing your physical appearance. Just remember them...that's what matters.

Now, get a haircut...you look like a damn hippie.

No you are not mistaken.

It your choice to have long hair that drowns you or not when you take the PAST while in DEP for purpose of passing it and obtain GTEP eligibility for pararescue.

Apparently you aren’t in DEP status or even talked to recruiter. The policy is “Surface Swim: Swimsuit and goggles/scuba mask are the only equipment items allowed.” So no swim cap allowed for your official PAST given once you are in DEP status. You will be given two official PASTs, once to get a GTEP contract for PJ and another just before shipping to BMT. You need to pass both tests.

Oh yea, make sure its listed in your WRNORD "gear common to all"!! One time I remember not being able to find my SWIMCAP in the usual place as we prepped for river crossing, luckily I had a spare in my SAW pouch.

I'm was a Marine though, not sure about PJ's fyi.

Forgive the intrusion and slight OPSEC violation but hey, save a life maybe.....

I realize this is a training question, train like you fight in a SWIMCAP!

oh God someone please delete this, I can't stop.

The sad part of all this (too cool for school TTP development work that's going on here) is that I'm not at all sure that our new HS waiting to be a DEP member has any idea just how insightful his comments have been. They just keep on giving.

Sortta like running with a ruck up a mountain when a bulldozer's headed down, rounding a curve...

You're banned. We don't have time for some kid who thinks he rates to debate with people who have done things he can only dream about.

Perhaps some good can come from this. I would suggest you research how to donate your hair and get it cut properly for a good cause like Locks of Love or something similar.
