Shooter by Jack Coughlin

I was going to read this book, but was turned off by some reviews on Amazon. Granted there is no way of knowing if the reviewers are actual BTDTs, but either way I trust the opinion of the members of this site more than anybody. I searched but I couldn't find any discussion on it at SOCNET. Sorry if I missed it. Is it factual and a good read?

Thanks for your help.

Haven't read the book, but I'm sure this place will tell you what you need to know. The world is just too small for someone from SOCNET not to know him.

Claims he was in Mog as well.
Take a look at the back cover and the "excerpt" in the link.

We know him. Some far off claims in the book. But Migel went to the Staff Acad with John.

His claims to the number are over rated. But it is a book.

ugh...

During my time over in 3/7 I had some friends over in STA platoon and heard nothing but bad things and some angry remarks regarding the authors claims and what he said in his book, most of those some things that i'll not say here because i'm not a man who bashes on fellow Marines behind the comfort of a computer screen and the animosity it provides. I dont know the details, I was not in STA nor did I ever actually meet the man, i'm just relating what other HOGS and PIGS were saying about him at the time, but needless to say the snipers I talked with were not very pleased with the book.

I read the book. To me it was like I stumbled across the book, never heard of the guy and niether had a buddy of mine who is also a scout sniper, finished the book and then never heard anything of the guy.

Good read though.

As noted, we discussed this book and dismissed it.

Look at the old thread.
