I just looked at you Silverbullet, and I can not see your profile.
All I see is your statistics tab. No profile.

Havign the profile open is cool, that's the way it has always been. But being able to hide contact info from everyone but my friends is nice. e.g. if I want to put my skpe account in there and it is first.last I would be hesitant to do that. But locking that down to just people I'd want calling me is good improvement.

And hiding the profile from guests, bots, etc and making people register in order to view account info is a big plus.

I promise I'm not a stalker, but I do like to refer back to the profile pages
of people pretty often. It puts what they say into perspective when you know
what type of background they are coming from. It's also helpful when you're
new as a way to get to know who's who; most members here have such
awesome backgrounds. So you can expect me to be stopping by.

Everyone should take a look at the Profile Privacy section: http://www.socnet.com/profile.php?do=doprivacy

you can restrict who can see what in your profile.

Nice. Very nice! I like the option to mark details "Registered Users" only. Anyone who's curious about my avatar/logo, they can bloody well register and post an introduction in the appropriate place.

Kinda curious how the software determined who to use to automatically populate the contacts list.

Is SOCNET really aiming for the social networking change (what a lot of the new features are designed for), or is it just a byproduct of the upgrade?

Luckily, I was taking the CISSP exam when all this went down. I never knew the site was down, thank God. Nervous as I was about that test, if the Socnet went down, I'd have had a breakdown.

Now I have to figure out how to send Sharky and Frog a Friend Request... Maybe SB, too but he is a big meanie and scary.

Moved to the test area in order to focus on issues or suggestions in regards to this upgrade.

We are not going to use the social groups, friends, or things related to that.

We plan on continuing with the way socnet runs and think the social networking and friends line of comm will detract from what socnet is and stands for.

The site is joint in nature and the special groups and clubs really don't fit here. We also think it will detract from the time the subj's that are discussed.

The privacy option is a great option and we plan to keep it.

We have also enabled the profile picture option.

We enabled something that should allow you to style your profile the way you want it. We haven't messed with it yet so if one of figures it out, post the info so everyone can learn.

We are working to allow a small, 10 pics or so, photo album as part of each confirmed user and above user group profile as well.

You will see some changes in the profile area as well tweak things. Don't panic if you look and can't see anything in your profile one day. It's just temporary as we work on the system to get it the way we want it as well as make it more user friendly.

None of these changes change the requirement for every member to have a profile that is accurate and readable, displayed.

Please post your suggestions or questions and one of the Admins will answer it or take it for action.

If you're a vbulletin wiz feel free to add any suggestions or assistance in this thread. Use language that the average member can understand not geek speak.

So any references to "friends" in the User CP area is a misnomer and "friends"= "contacts," nicht wahr?

the customize profile option is gui based and you can pretty much get it to work with a couple of beers, some time on your hands and a lot of mouse clicks. click on the dotted line box to the right of an area you want to change. That will bring up a color palate and you click on the color you want. Then click preview to view the effect.

After goofing it up 6 or seven times, click on 'clear all fields' at the bottom, this will reset you to the default settings.

but we're damn sure going to find out who can color coordinate and who can't

If there is one nice feature that I think definitely needs to stay, its the Contacts. Nice, easy to read, compilation of people that you converse with on a regular basis. Great addition, IMO.

On one type of vbulletin, there's an option for bidding on things for sale. I'll look for it, but in the meantime, do you all think this option would be a good idea for the site? That way guys can discreetly bid on things for sale and you don't have to answer a bunch of PMs.
