Early on Thursday morning, around 0430, my good friend, MSG Ed Leblanc, 18D/18Z, died when he struck a deuce and a half, left abandoned in the middle of the road, with no lights, etc. There were no lights on the road, and there was no way he could see the truck, at the speed he was going, on the open road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

Ed was a great guy.. good person, great NCO.. He loved his guns... practically had his own armory at home. :) He taught part-time at Mid-South Institute.

Ed, we miss you, already, and always will. You will always be a good friend and will be remembered for your intelligence, your laughter, your love of guns, your love of Country, and your love of family and friends.

Please pray for he and his family.

We'll never forget, Ed. A toast to you.. We'll laugh and smile at your memory and keep on keepin' on...

His obituary in his home newspaper.

"... Mr. LeBlanc died tragically in a vehicle accident Thursday morning in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A native of New Iberia, he joined the US Army in August 1985. The Army took him to various locales throughout the United States and the world. Early in his career he was selected and became a member of the selective elite force called the Green Berets. He began his Special Forces career as a Special Forces Medic moving up in the ranks to become a Special Forces Team Sergeant. The most sought out position in Special Forces. Ed served honorably and bravely in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also served as a Special Forces Operator on numerous military operations throughout South, and Central America in support of US foreign policy. His awards include the Army Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC), the Army Commendation medals (3OLC), the Special Forces Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, the Combat Medic Badge, and numerous others. He was respected by his peers, subordinates and superiors alike. Ed leaves a huge void to all who knew him. His leadership, friendship, and mentorship will be missed by friends; family, and the US Army. ...."

What a loss. Somehow we seem to expect it more when they're deployed-not just driving to work.
