HVT Raid in Ramadi 12 Sep 03

Been a long time now, yet it still seems like it took place only yesterday...

MSG Kevin Morehead and SFC Bill Bennett, both of 5th SFG

KIA during the conduct of an HVT raid in Ramadi 12 Sep 03

Seven of their fellow warriors were wounded that night, but survived.

I hope that you're resting comfortably in His arms...

Was this the incident where they went in and pretty much the whole building was an IED?
I was at the ISG. It led to many a late night discussion.

eoddude - no, it wasn't. HVT raid on a house gone bad, where the occupants were waiting for the team, guns in hand.

I believe the incident you were refering to was in Mosul, Tony Yost was killed along with a conventional guy.

I believe that happened in Nov 05. The incident I'm thinking about was in early 04.
But, yeah same scenario.

That sounds like the incident that took SSgt Vitagliano in Ramadi.
He was a scrolled and tabbed 75th NCO who if I remember right he volunteered to deploy with 1/503rd PIR from Korea to Iraq.

He was also Gulf War vet with the USMC from 1991.

There was a huge VBIED near a building during a cordon and search. It seemed like the whole building was wired up at first.

A soldier who survived said Sgt Vito pushed him away from vehicle and saved his life.

I apologize for stepping on your memorial and Blue Skies to your friend.
