Tech. Sgt. John Chapman to have AF Cross upgraded to MOH
Could not find if this had been posted yet
Report: Air Force combat controller Tech. Sgt. John Chapman to have AF Cross upgraded to MOH Tech. Sgt. John Chapman, the combat controller who was killed during the fierce Battle of Roberts Ridge in Afghanistan in 2002, will be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, according to a report in Task and Purpose. Chapman would be the first airman to receive a Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, for actions since the Vietnam War. Chapman originally received an Air Force Cross, the second-highest valor award an airman can receive, for his heroism during the March 4, 2002, battle against al Qaida fighters. But newly-enhanced video from a Predator drone showed more evidence that Chapman was not dead, but instead unconscious, when a team of Navy SEALs withdrew from the battle under withering fire. RIP Warrior. You've given the ultimate sacrifice, and you have earned it. AFC or MOF, you are the real deal.
Great story wildman. Thx! |
It has in the CCT thread but deservingly belongs here now.

About time.
|
Looks like there is a bit of controversy over the award, the Air Force insists that Chapman was still alive when the SEALs withdrew from the mountain and the Navy is just as adamant that he had already been killed.

Has anyone ever seen this? "First Medal of Honor act ever captured on film! This footage is absolutely INREDIBLE. John 'Chappy' Chapman (Air Force CCT) was posthumously awarded the medal of Honor and qualified for a second MOH Award." https://youtu.be/Sza-DZyLqy8 |

John is the first Combat Controler to receive the MOH. There are two other enlisted airmen that received the MOH during VN era.
