I guess Rick Scott and the State of Florida have NOTHING better to do.

I find it very amusing when a political figure accuses someone else of taking money for doing nothing.

Such an insult to a wonderful, remarkable man. With all the corruption and sleaze in this state Gov Scott has obviously got some very screwed up priorities.

A shame he didnt launch an investigation into USAF Colonel Clifford E. Day instead. Talk about a fraud.

Seems like an[I] amazing [/I]man, but if he was being paid $84K per year just to come in and do nothing? Sorry, MOH or not, that's taxpayer money.

What difference does the MOH make? COL Day has a long and distinguished career in the legal profession. If folks want to laugh him out of the building, they shouldn't let pissant BS like a MOH, being a retired COL, or being a former POW stop them.

I don't trust any politician, but admittedly I don't know anything about Scott. It was just the arrogance of the quote by COL Day that struck me and he certainly has the right to be arrogant if he wants to be, but not on the taxpayer dollar.

I agree, if he was not doing his job, fire him. And if the job was "created" in some kind of buddy buddy scheme, fire whomever created the position. I've never seen the need for a supervisor for 8 people where the supervisor's sole position is to supervise.

Not only is Rick Scott a political figure, but he's also a crook. People who elected that clown are getting what they asked for. Unfortunately, so are the rest of us in Florida.

I am not sure if his quote shows arrogance, as I did not see what he said in its entirety (because it is not printed). The paper printed only a short quote from an 87 year old retired colonel.

I voted for Scott and think he has done a great job so far, all the libtards hate him so that tells you all you need to know. As far as Col. Day, one of the greatest americans ever.He was also a Marine in WW2 and Korea with over 80 decorations , and has been THE biggest advocate for veterns rights. I wish Scott would rethink this.

Look the man up, (IMO) he can be as arrogant as he wants. FWIW-Supervisors do not explain their actions to subordinate. That's how the world swings. Little piss-ants who have their panties wadded up.

I know who he is. I also know if he was just coming in for a coffee and a newspaper and leaving for the day his position isn't necesarry.

Just seems to me there is an adequate reason for an investigation, and a responsibility to the taxpayer. Maybe not, maybe it's all political, but no one should get a position at the taxpayer's expense based on their military exploits or who they know or who they are.

If the Govt wants to run a job service program for MOH recipients, then propose a law, make it so, and let's pay them a salary every year.

But no one is above scrutiny. If he was doing his job satisfactorily there's nothing to worry about. If he wasn't there is. If someone created the job through cronyism, there's something amiss there, too.

No one is above scrutiny when they are on the taxpayer's dime. No one.

So if it is determined that this man was hired to do a job with taxpayer's dollars that really consisted of nothing but sitting around drinking coffee, you eliminate the job and send him home. If he was expected to do more but didn't do it....same thing...you fire him. A special prosecutor investigation indicates the possibility of some type of fraud charge. Only way I see any type of fraud is if he were pretending to be doing something that he was never doing. Maybe that's the case. All we have to go on is the article.

If somebody offered me $84,000 and gave me a title and told me I could basically do whatever or as little as I wanted, I'd ride that horse as long as I could. Would I be breaking any law in doing so? The person that hired me might have some answering to do when it became evident but I don't see where I could be charged with anything criminally.

Then again, maybe I'm wrong....just the way I see it.

I have sen first hand what the effects of the lack of support for education in Florida is doing (not simply saying liberal/conservative). Just take a honest look at testing for instance, lol. I don't hate him, just wish his bean counter mentality made more sense for our long term future. I know quite a few teachers that made a difference in the lives of many children, probably a few of you too. One lady in particular comes to my mind. Simply to say it's liberals... oh, hell, I give up. Education in Florida got screwed upon the into of Lotto's promise, what a political scam, I think it was both parties in on that one. I guess Politicians do in fact rule it all, I hope Col Day gets a fair shake. Good luck.

As a Florida voter, I've questioned Scott's motives a LOT. I'd like to see the minutes and attendance for his meetings and how many he's missed. A lot of these elected positions require you only meet a certain percentage of the required attendance....I'd like to see how close Scott is to limbo-ing under it!

As to the matter at hand: This guy is an American Hero whose sacrificed more for this nation than Gov Rick Scott or his staff ever will. I seriously doubt a retired Full-Bird with a reputation like his is sitting around reading the funnies and sucking down Folgers Home Brew! And even if he was, I'd consider it ethical back-pay for all the days he WASN'T able too because he wanted to return home with honor! I have an idea about this: maybe I'll buy some coffee and mail it to the good Gov Rick Scott with a letter... I certainly know where to get some killer coffee....

I think some of you are missing the point entirely. Launching an investigation into what may be a misappropriation of a large chunk of the taxpayers money is the right thing to do.... PERIOD! I would expect no less from the Governor. Yes the Colonel is a hero, no doubts and has done great things for God and country but that does not mean he can collect 84k a year to sit around drinking coffee. Maybe in the private sector but not on the taxpayer's dime. This is more on the Public Defender's shoulders than the Col's. Evidence proves he's "GTG" then he's GTG, no harm no foul and the GOV is in the clear for having looked out for the taxpayer's money. Its an accountability thing, nothing less, nothing more.

Are you seriously suggesting that a man's military service makes him exempt from certain laws and public accountability?
