RIP Doug Young SEAL
1 Attachment(s)
I recieved the following e-mail from a fellow retired Air Force Pararescueman, Dave Young about his brother Doug:
Team Mates, My little Brother Doug Young lost his battle with cancer today around noon at Hot Springs, Arkansas. Doug was a US Navy SEAL for twenty years. 10 yr at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base where he was Operations NCO for ST-2. He worked with Rudi Bosch and Cmdr Reve. Some of the 1724 STS guys might remember working with him. He taught the SEALs Winter Warfare in Labrador, Newfoundland and Harstad, Norway. Then 10 yrs at Coronado Naval Amphibious Base, San Diego. He started Winter Warfare at Kodiak Island, Alaska for the West Coast SEALs. He climbed up Mt McKinley with the Elmendorf PJ Team. His partner got HAPE on the summit ridge and they had to descend. For the past several years he had been battling Oropharygeal Cancer. He is survived by his wife Pat, their 4 Children and one Granddaughter. This just happened, when I find out more details I'll pass on arrangement info and his address. Dave Young PJ 69-97
At their father's recent 80th birthday, it was remarked that he had raised two sons; one to become a SEAL and another a PJ and that few parents could raise either one. Cards can be sent to Doug Young Family 198 Rhema Point Hot Springs National Park, AR.71913 Dave has advised the UDT/SEAL Museum Ft Pierce, Fla and UDT/SEAL Association. Although I did not know Doug personally, I can tell you that Dave, a highly decorated Vietnam Pararescueman in his own right, looked up to his brother Doug. Blue skies, Doug Young. Attached is a photo of Doug playing on the ST-2 soft Ball team (82/83ish), believe they won the Bases Admirals cup that year for athletics'. |
