SF soldier KIA -- Memorial and tribute
Upon the recommendation of a respected friend, I would like to submit a photo for those of you wishing a glimpse of the memorial attendees at Mitch Lane's Memorial, KIA 8/29/03, held in his home town of Lompoc, CA. To the left is SFC Doug Sands, center, PrincessPatriot, and right SFC Charles Burke. Both SF'ers were members of Mitch Lane's unit.
The Memorial was a high tribute to Mitch with an honor passed to me by accepting an invitation to sit with the family during the services. He is sorely missed by many people. A friend here on SOCNET said to me in the weeks following his death, "I hope he left a piece of his heart for the one of yours he took with him." I lost a brother, and somehow there is a piece of me that I can never get back. No one's death comes to pass without making some impression, and those close to the deceased inherit part of the liberated soul and become richer in their humanness. ~Hermann Broch Last edited by PrincessPatriot; 2 October 2003 at 23:46. |

Excellent post. Wonderful photograph. It was heartfelt of you to magnify your admiration for Mitch Lane and connect with the family during this time of grief for both you and the family. "Blessed is the warrior that goes forward, for his return is unknown" |

Navy pays tribute
Mitch touched many lives, and even now people are still coming forward to voice such. As a testament to the kind of guy he was (and is his family, as well), please read the following letter sent to Mitch's parents this past week. These types of letters keep rolling in; evidently I wasn't the only one lucky to know him. *smile*

You are a great FRIEND. Keep the ones we have lost close in our thoughts. The ones that are here hold them dear. Be good. Keep your head up. ![]() BAT |

PP,
I am truly sorry for our loss. Fine man, fighter for every American. Doing a deed that needs to be done for every man woman and child of our Nation. There are damn few like him. Godspeed Mr. Lane. Rest In Peace. America has lost one of her sons and true patriots. We will not forget your sacrifice for us all. May God Rest Your Soul.

My condolences,
I would just like to say thank you Mr. Lane. For you have truly paid the price many would not. Thanks PP for the post. To the Admins on this site: Is there a way we can make a Tribute page for our fallen brothers? Something with a picture and a short bio of the fallen Soldier, that anyone who knew the person can submit to socnet. Thank you again. Respectfully Submitted JP |
