That wheel barrow he used to wheel around his nuts, had to add extra weight to the already overloaded bird. Well deserved, and congratulations Lt. Col. Charles Kettles.

Lt Col Kettles Viet Nam pilot

Lt Col Charles Kettles will receive the MOH for his actions during a battle in Duc Pho. Kettles had already received the Distinguished Service Cross for this same battle, but Michigan Rep Debbie Dingel has lobbied to have his award upgraded to the MOH.

Descriptions of the battle and Lt Col Kettles' actions are provided on the Stars and Stripes web site and the Army's MOH section of the website.

After reading the description of events, I say this is an award long overdue.

Hand Salute, Lt Col Kettles.

"That's the bottom line, said Kettles: those Soldiers went home to their families. Their names aren't carved in stone on a wall in D.C. No medal can compare with that."

AMEN!

Not to detract from this topic. But regarding my OP - I don't know which link was the bad one. Honest question. I looked at S&S "about" section and did some google-fu and saw no association with Gannett. I also reviewed the Gannett thread here on SOCNET. Didn't see them listed. And I assumed army.mil was a valid site. Just looking for guidance so I don't repeat. Thanks.

Lt Col Kettles was awarded the Medal of Honor today. One comment that was made when His windshield was blown out by mortar rounds ,He said "Well at least I don't have to turn the air conditioner on !"
Upon picking up the eight men who were left behind, he was 600 lbs overweight. and the only way he could get off the ground was to have the Huey " Hop down the LZ like a rabbit" until He could get airborne. But the last "Hop" was so bad that one of the men fell out and clung to the skid all the way back to the base camp.
