Apocalypse Now final cut

I guess Coppola is doing a full restoration. Not going to be as long as redux was. Going to be in theaters in August. I liked redux and I'm curious what will get cut from it?

Seiko is doing a limited run of the "Willard" dive watch.

There's a good synopsis of his new work here-> Link (over on Indiewire).

That movie has influenced a bunch of art.

Before my friend and I reported to boot camp, we were so hooked on that movie that we actually bought the soundtrack of the movie -- word for word. We wore that thing out before going to run our practice PFT's.

My D/S in OSUT used to wake us up with the beach assault scene whenever he had CQ.

In the Guard I'd get sent to local campus to find the UA college kids. I gave quite a few Willard showers.
That was a joke in Iraq, we take random fire someone would say "Go get the Roach."

I always felt it was the best soundtrack ever. My cousin (RIP)who was a PBR crewman would listen to it for hours.

Loved the original but redux is going to be hard to beat. Made a hell of a lot more sense, and I don't think anyone who likes that movie is going to mind the length.

I suspect it will be redux lite for those with shorter attention spans.

If you want to spend over $4000 for a Seiko watch. Especially when all it is, is a $400 Prospex dive watch with a different rubber band and just different hands and hour markers.

I agree, the originals have a cult following. I'm sure they'll sell.

It is not like the watch is Special - it is just what some actor was wearing when a fictional movie was made.

I will sell you my Casio G Shock, I actually wore while really running patrols deep in the Cambodian jungle with my Khmers, for only $2000.

Back at the Fort Bragg SOTIC, my fellow instructor, the late George Miller acquired the nickname/callsign of 'The Roach' from some students and the name stuck.

I'm think Francis Ford Coppola thought he was making the ultimate anti-war flick but I'm sure he'd be kind of disappointed by all the folks in uniform (and often SF) that can quote scenes from the movie word for word.

No one wants to buy an SFs guy's watch! Now a SEALs watch is where it's at...and I'll let it go for $1500.

I surfed in Qua Viet ('69).

Attention span is a consideration, as is bladder control for some of us older guys. Will probably have/need an intermission.

.
This.

The redux made a helluva lot more sense expecially the context behind the purple haze scene. The playboy bunnies actually added to the story. Made a great movie even better as a story...

I'd like to see the scene where Colby kills Hopper put back in. Can be found on YouTube along with the Monkey Sampan scene.

I never viewed it as an anti war movie. I always viewed it as Coppola' clever use of metaphors for our involvement there starting with the premise of sending a tough as nails, win at all costs, old school special forces soldier (Kurtz) into a theater of operations to do a job and then the absurdity of having to kill him because he’s too successful in fighting the enemy using the enemy’s barbaric tactics.

Some of the other metaphors;

1. The soldier wading into the river with his suitcase begging to go home
2. The helicopter crew with the playboy models in the mud (in ‘Redux’)
3. The AA boat captain getting killed by a spear
4. After the beach assault, the guys throwing the football around 5 minutes later.
5. The trippy surfer Lance B. Johnson (LBJ)
6. ‘You’re a grocery boy sent by clerks’ quote.

There’s so many more. You can probably find something in every scene.

"Errand boy" sent by "grocery clerks" that is.

Good catch on the metaphor aspect especially around the bridge with all the strings of lights hung on it. It's almost like we're seeing everything through Lance's eyes with an LSD filter.
