In Memory of my friend Sgt Henry Toledo USMC
CAMP LEJEUNE MARINES DIES AT TRAINING ACCIDENT DURING CAX
March, 1995. The Camp Lejeune Marine fatally shot Tuesday by a .50-calliber machine gun at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms was identified as Cpl. Henry Toledo. Toledo, 25, was shot once in the chest. He was a member of 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalioin of the 2nd Marine Division. He was a native of Luquillo, Puerto Rico. Agents of the Navial Criminal Investigative Service are still probing the incident. The shooting occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Camp Wilson vehicle ramp. Toledo was evacuated to the naval hospital at Twentynine Palms and pronounced dead at 1:58 p. m. Tuesday. The victim and his unit were at Twentynine Palms for a combined-arms exercise that started in mid-January. "They were near the end of the CAX," Thompson said. Sgt Henry (Papito) Toledo and I grew up together, lived just a few houses down from one another, and were school mates from 1st grade until High School. We both joined the Marines shortly after graduating from High School. Henry died during a training accident while at CAX 17 years ago today. I was on a CAX at the STUMPS in 92 with 1st AAV B. God bless those who gave in our country and that lonely patch of sand in california those that have been there know back in the day it was as real on US soil as it got .
