Mind4Survival Podcast - SOCNET Call to Action

Alright, ladies and gentlemen, Silverbullet is graciously allowing me to make the announcement for a new podcast.

Mind4Survival is a refreshingly practical podcast created by one of our very own BTDT Socnet members.

The topics covered focus on preparing for bad times, part prepper, part disaster, but in a way that is applicable to every single person here. The solutions work for you, your non-tactical significant other, and even your kids.

Go visit the website: http://mind4survival.com/ and download the Podcast.

There's also some great content on his FB page and since all new Veteran-owned businesses need the boost in visibility, please give him a "like".

I promise you that you will enjoy this and you may even recognize some of the guests since they all happen to be SMEs in their fields. While he's remaining out of the spotlight right now, Brian will be watching this thread very carefully to see what kind of feedback you all have to offer.

Help a brother out and learn something in the process!

Read the "Gray Man" post.

It made me think about when to fire up a generator....

I work with a lot of guys that like those types of sites. I'm going to push it at the office as well.

That's awesome. Brian will be delighted and they'll enjoy the conversations.

The thing that got me excited about it is that it's a real departure from the stereotypical guy who has no clue and wears tinfoil hats, raging about a comet hitting us, or the Illuminati taking over...

Instead, you're getting great content, that is easily used for everyone out there, and still has plenty of substance.

Without giving too much away, there's an episode, I think it's number 3, with Gina Cavallaro which will make you think. She talks about real life bad things happening and how to deal with them. I asked my significant other to listen to it and she just went "holy shit, that is insane" and was glued to the speaker when we listened to it. To her...that's a crazy event.

To most of us here, we would handle it differently. But we're all worried about "not us".

Listened to Episode 5 last night. Really enjoyed it. Listening to Episode 2 right now. I'll likely download the rest to listen to as I travel. Really liking it.

Personally, I like the little things that pertain to being away from home. How George Taylor off-handedly suggested keeping a door stop for hotel rooms, which is something I had had to hit myself on the head over. Because it's something I should have thought about, and maybe did at some point but memory-holed the entire thing.

Since I am going to be going on a weeklong biz-trip starting Monday morning to the "beautiful" city of Milwaukee, I remember why I loathe flying so much. Pretty much anything 'security' related is a no-go. I can't bring my usual E&E load out kit, my go-go-gadget get me home bag, and other things I usually keep accessible for that hypothetical 'oh shit' situation. The episode really reminded me of the fact that the one thing can never be taken away from you is your ingenuity and situational awareness skills. And, I don't even think this is arguable, those are the two most important things in anyone's toolkit. And it's, IMO, the most expensive and difficult to acquire because you can't buy it. You have to slowly accumulate it over years of experience. Seems to be a blend of "street smarts", wisdom, and common sense. The definintions of those three ingredients also changes from location to location. What could be "common sense" in the USA might not be so "common sense" in some other place in the world.

Glad there is a program out there to try and hit that fact home.

Kind of interested in hearing the expert opinions on CONUS resource deficiency stop-gaps that could be had in nearly any place stateside. Can't bring my gun.........go to wally world and maybe buy a cheap bushcraft knife. Can't depend on hotel locks/chains........bring a rubber doorstop with you when you travel. Are local maps still sold in gas stations? I haven't seen one in a while, but honestly I haven't specifically looked either. Little dumb things like that perk my ears up like a little dog hearing a treat bag being opened up.

They sell ones with an alarm built into it these days. Not only stop/delay any potential threat but sure to wake you up at the same time. Even if it's day time while you're away and just an employee trying to steal, will likely scare them off to try another door instead.
