attached to the civil affairs

Hi my name is shaun, I just joined the army less than a few weeks ago. My mos is supposed to be 25 bravo. I was told at meps i must have a top secret clearence for psyop. So i was not able to pick that mos. so i was handed a 25 bravo with secret as the clearence needed. The reason i wanted psyop is that i would be able to be special forces faster. Did i make a wrong choice, picking information systems operations analyst for my mos? If i want to Go to the Q course? Am i stuck in a non combat arms for the rest of my contract? can i being attached to civil affairs still get the same options to go to airborn school? asking a recruiter these questions dosnt get me anywhere. and i dont seem to get the same answers anywhere i go. But i wanted to ask before i go to my unit this way i dont give my CO the wrong impression of me. I just want to Do what i can to advance myself the best i can with what was given to me. But im 26 and want to go to the q course before im to old to. Any information would be very helpfull and i would be very thankfull for it. WWW.Goarmy.com dosn't seem to answer the questions.

If you cannot do this you have no business even thinking about putting in a 4187 requesting Special Forces training/assignment.

Take care.

CA/PSY Op are great MOSs for schools

shaunH05,

Hey man, I have been in Civil Affairs since Nov 2003 and it has been a blast. For the past year I have been on tons of tours/schools. It is so easy to go to any of the schools that you wish.

In the past 10 months, I have been to DEST/SERE/IED Training, Germany for a month (SOCEUR), been at Bragg twice for weeks at a time for Role Player support for CA School and Robin Sage, as an E-4/SPC.

I am currently the backup S-3 NCO, we have tons of slots for Airborne/Air Assault/Ranger and language schools. Psy Op/CA is a great way to get into these schools without being Ranger/SF Qualified. People dont realize that these MOS's are very fun, and has a lot opportunity to advance in the Army world.

No wonder there aren't enough slots for Combat Arms branched troops, they are allocated to the Civil Affairs.

I personally haven't seen any C/A ops where the team had to jump in, or land nav at night over 40 klicks to get to the OA, nor co-ordinate the airdrops....

You have Ranger slots? How many troops has your unit sent to Ranger school? I'm betting none.

I am in an active jump Psyop unit, and currently in OIF the only CA ive seen with ranger are officers who were infantry before CA. ya ranger school is open to everyone now, but its next to impossible to get it in psyop or ca...active duty combat arms guys still come first on that list. and of course CA gets all kinds of shit, you see how many officers they have? the task force that came here with me alone had 3 full birds, 5 LTC, and god knows how many majors and captains scurrying all over Ft. Bragg.

Sorry havent been on in awhile.

As for as people going to Ranger or Sapper school, we just got the nod from higher. But its very hard to get a Ranger slot due to active duty has higher priority (which is a good thing). Its something that if you want to go, maybe six months to a year before you can even get a slot.

We currently have 5 Rangers and 4 SF guys in our unit.
There are a number of Airborne and Air Assault. More going to DEST and SERE.

To get anyone to go to any school, is damn near impossible because everyone has been deployed and is being deployed again, so they never want to go to schools because it takes too much time. That is the reason I say we have a lot, we get a limited amount, but they are never filled 'cause no one wants to go.

As far as CA making jumps, Afghanistan some jumped with SF. Moving clicks, the most I have done was 15 clicks at night.

CA has tons of officers, its annoying. Its annoying when deployed because all the locals just want to talk to Officers, and higher command only talks to officers, maybe that is the reason it is so Brass Heavy. If there was a PSYOP unit around me I would test the waters over there. I have many friends in PSYOP and they love it.

LOL

I'll bet I can guess what the pic you want for an avatar is going to be, based on your profile...

Officers in CA are annoying to you? Leave.

If you read "CA has tons of officers, its annoying" it doesnt read CA Officers are Annoying.
My father is Army retired Officer, and in no way was/is he annoying. You just misread my statement.
With a 4 man team like I had, two were officers, its tough because there is a lot of stress put on the the E-1 through E-8s on the teams. That is what was meant by that statement. All everyone does on this is rag on each other.
Id love to hear what you think my pic will be.
