Question

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could tell me this information. I am considering becoming a PsyOp specialist, but as a reservist, I have checked out the Army's website and it says that only active duty Specialists get to go to airborne and language training, so my question is, can reservists go to airborne and language training, or is that only for the active duty guys. Oh and I have checked out www.psywarrior.com, and I could not find any of this information there, so any help would be appreciated.

sorry for the long post.

The Prior Service company at DLI was full of Psyop and CA folks.

Abn and Lang are part of the pipeline for AD 37F's. In the reserves you get those schools at a later date so that your not out of the units grubby little paws for a year or more.

for initial contract folks going into RC PSYOP, get DLI in your CONTRACT and you WILL go through on your IET period; if not, "you'll fall in on it down range."

I just finished ANCOC with some RC PSYOP guys and they still haven't gone to language school. Make sure you get it in writing on your contract your you might have to wait "awhile".

SOLIC was offered to CA & PSYOP reservists graduating from my AIT class (03-06). Getting every reservist a language is something that has been in the works for a long time. It's something they would like to implement, haven't heard if it has happened yet. Like you read above, get it in the contract (and definitely go for DLI. you get to do PT on the beach).

Yea but doing PT on the beach when you cant see the person giving PT because of the fog just does not have the appeal of a "Top Gun" type beach vollyball session.:D

If you want both guaranteed, go Active Duty.

If you are steadfast in going USAR and want the best chance to go to the BAC (Basic Airborne Course, also known as "jump school"), you will have to move.

346th in Ohio
345th in Texas
301st in California

Those are the only Reserve PSYOP units that are on jump status and get front of the line priviledges for BAC.

The remainder do occasionally get BAC slots, but you are going to have to wait in line and earn a cookie. There are guys who have been in units for a couple of years, already deployed, and have earned consideration for school slots like that.

The Army calls it the Order of Merit List.

You start at the bottom.
