Army Medic Desmond Doss
Army medic Desmond Doss single-handedly brought 75 wounded troops to safety while under constant fire on Okinawa on May 5, 1945. President Truman awarded him the Medal of Honor on October 12, 1945.

Captain Jay Zeamer, Jr.
While on a reconnaissance mission over the Solomon Islands on June 16, 1943, Captain Jay Zeamer, Jr., was caught by surprise by 20 Japanese fighter planes. Despite being seriously injured, he remained in control of his plane over the course of a 40-minute firefight, directing his B-17 to an emergeny landing 580 miles away. Zeamer was awarded the Medal of Honor on January 6, 1944.

Chief John Finn
On December 7, 1941, despite serious wounds, Navy ordinance chief John Finn rallied his men to defend their base from attacks at Kanoehe Bay, Hawaii. On September 14, 1942, Finn was awarded the Medal of Honor while on board the USS Enterprise in Pearl Harbor.

Staff Sgt. Rudolph Davila
When his rifle company was ambushed on May 28, 1944, in Anzio, Italy, Staff Sergeant Rudolph Davila charged ahead, taking out two snipers and disabling two machine-gun emplacements. On June 21, 2000, after U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka took up the cause of minority soldiers whose heroism might have been overlooked, Davila was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Pvt. First Class Jack Lucas
On Iwo Jima on February 20, 1945, 17-year-old Private First Class Jack Lucas dove onto two grenades, saving the lives of his fellow Marines. Lucas was awarded the Medal of Honor on October 5, 1945. He is the youngest recipient to win the Medal.

Private First Class Mike Colalillo
When his weapon was disabled on April 7, 1945, Private First Class Mike Colalillo braved enemy fire to operate the turret on an American tank, successfully attacking an enemy force that had pinned down his unit near Untergriesheim, Germany. For his bravery, Colalillo was awarded the Medal of Honor on December 18, 1945.
